While I was on sick leave, I whiled away the time by watching TV. And one of the TV shows that caught my attention was White Collar. The story revolves around Neal Caffrey who was a former thief (he steals expensive items like arts or antiques) and was taken into custody by FBI and is now using him as a consultant to help them solve their cases. His handler’s name is Peter Burke who is like a father figure to him. What probably caught my eye the first time was the actor who played Neal, Matt Bomer.
His eyes are so mesmerizing. Turned out the series is really interesting. It was funny at the right times, and the crimes are mysterious and exciting at the same time, with the personal story of Neil and Peter intertwined with each episode. By the way, the series is titled White Collar because the FBI unit they’re working for is the white collar unit, responsible for catching white collar criminals like Neal.
Even after my leave, we continued watching it every night on Fox. But now the season has ended and no more Neil Caffrey to follow. Apparently, the season shown on Fox was only season 1 and season 2 is now being shown in the US. Now, I want to get a copy of the complete season 1 because we weren’t able to start the whole season.
Last night the hubby and I were watching MTV World Stage which featured the concert of Beyonce in the Wynn Theater, Las Vegas. It wasn’t just a feast for the ears but a feast for the eyes as well. I love watching concerts with all those production effects (lights, costumes, dancers) albeit on TV. I told the hubby when we get richer we should watch concerts in HK or Singapore haha feeling ko mas maganda ang production value ng concerts don kesa sa MOA hahaha.
With nothing good to watch on TV last night, the hubby and I "watched" the chat room channel (or is there any other name for this channel?). The messages were hilarious!

I was channel surfing last night when I saw TGIS The Movie on PBO.
Ohmygosh! I was such a teenager! I can't believe I was so kilig to the TV show when I was in high school. And then watching the movie last night…blech! Hahaha I can't stand it! Is it because I've grown up and don’t find the cheesy lines kakilig? Even the petty fighting between the loveteams was soo..that's it petty! Oh to be young and in love. Although I must admit it was my first time to watch the movie last night (didn't even able to finish it). To which my husband said, "Di ka nakipili sa libo-libong nanood nyan?" hahahaha No, he didn't watch it too back then. He doesn't even remember why Ciara Sotto was in the movie.
I was watching Oprah earlier on the Hallmark Channel. I don't know what the episode was really about because I didn't catch the start of it, but Oprah was walking outside with a tall blonde woman and they're talking about how the government of that city provides free health care, free education and that they even give the citizens money to go the university. So I had to keep on watching to see where this city is. It turns out, they were in Copenhagen, Denmark. I immediately thought if they have immigrants there hehehe. Okay, during commercials I switched channels but when I came back to Oprah, she's now inside a very clean and sleek house. Another tall blonde woman was taking her around the house, they we're going down the stairs when Oprah asked where they slept. The woman said "It's upstairs" and then Oprah's like "It's upstairs? I didn't notice it, I have to go back upstairs and see your bed." The bed looked like a thin foam placed on leveled square discreetly placed at the corner of a room. It's very interesting how unmaterialistic they were considering it seems they can have everything they want. And then the next bit showed Oprah talking to a bunch of Danish women, and they said "Don't you think it's interesting how we are the happiest people on earth but we're not religious?" And I think, all of them except one didn't believe in a higher being.
The next woman shown was from Dubai, and then Rio de Janeiro. I have to look for that episode on Youtube.
It's always an eye-opener to learn how different we live from other people in other parts of the world - that we are just one small speck in this world. Amazing! I wish I would get to visit these places some day and see for myself.

One of the nice things about the year ending, aside from the usual year-ender specials, are the marathons shown on television. I was able to catch Lipstick Jungle marathon on the Hallmark channel and Glee marathon on Jack TV. Then we also bought Seasons 1 and 2 of the Big Bang Theory because I had nothing left to do before New Year's day.
I love the wardrobe of the ladies on Lipstick Jungle. Unlike in Sex andThe City, when the clothes are sometimes too over-the-top for my taste, the clothes in this series are attainable. They are polished, sophisticated and sometimes they are really some basic pieces with a few accessories to liven up the whole wardrobe. This is where realization kicks in, I don’t really have to buy new clothes for work, I just need to buy some new accessories, a whole lot of neck pieces, some bracelets, some earrings and I am done. I also love the fact that they are all working women and that the show can appeal to almost every women of different statuses because Victory is single, Nico is married, while Wendy is married with children.
I know a lot of people are going gaga over Glee. Sure it’s a different TV show because it’s a musical. I do love the scenes where they sing and how they do their own versions of the songs, what I can’t really care much about it is the drama between the different characters. This is one of the reasons why I don’t wait for it week after week to be shown on TV. So while watching the marathon, I was doing other things and just kept it on the background. But I do know the storyline and I’m happy with the season finale when Finn found out that he wasn’t the father of Quinn's baby. Best scene for me is the whole football team singing Single Ladies.
I know I’ve mentioned here before that I love the Big Bang Theory. We really wait for it to be shown every week. But the thing is sometimes our TV automatically locks out the channel on the day and time this series is shown, as in if we switch our TV to Jack TV on Tuesday 9pm, it’s locked out and we have to enter a password. And we don’t know the password. We still don’t know if the problem is our TV or our cable provider. Anyway, that’s why we bought the series on DVD. I would venture to say that it’s next to Friends on my list of favourite TV shows, sometimes I think it’s even funnier. Friends’ pilot episode wasn’t that funny, it took them a few episodes to get their right timing and right lines to make it hilariously funny. But with Big Bang, it was funny right off the first episode. One of my favourite episodes is the one when Sheldon “helped” Leonard lie to Penny by telling her that he has a drug addict cousin whom they (Leonard and Sheldon) are going to for intervention and hopefully convince to go into drug rehab and undergo Addiction Treatment. It was an unravenable lie as Sheldon puts it. He even hired a scientist/actor to pose as his cousin because they were unable to convince him to go into Drug Treatment.
Do you have a favorite US TV series and you can't wait for it to be shown in our local channels here? My current favorites are The Big Bang Theory, Family Guy and American Dad, all shown on Jack TV. The husband and I have a regular viewing schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays starting at 8:30pm is That 70's Show followed by The Big Bang Theory. And then on Thursdays we start at 8pm for the Family Guy, then American Dad and The Simpsons. Me, I usually prefer to watch it on DVD because of the added features but some friends of mine prefer downloading the series. My friends tell me that free torrents download are easily available on the internet. The websites offering this are very easy to use for us non-techy people out there. They said, the interface is simple, which is a plus especially for non-techy people like me, and it's very easy to search for your favorite music, film or even games. Maybe I should try this torrents download thingy.
Caught Aladdin last night on the Disney Channel. I wasn't able to watch the start but the scene I caught was after Aladdin and Jasmine met at the marketplace and Aladdin was put into jail. I remember being so amazed at the scene when Genie sang and danced to Aladdin when he was telling him about his three wishes. Aladdin is one of my most favorite Disney cartoons! While watching it last night, I still remember some of the lines from all the songs. I don't remember having the soundtrack but I think I did because I really remember the lines. "Prince Ali, fabulously he, Ali Ababua. Genuflect show some respect, down on one knee" – Genie sang while Aladdin was entering Jasmine's kingdom. And who can forget that the Philippines' very own Lea Salonga sang "A Whole New World". I even remember watching Lea at the Oscars performing for the Hollywood actors and actresses. Haaay.. it would have been nice to be a kid again…nothing much to worry about. Growing up is a whole new world, isn't it?
Hubby and I both haven't heard of Kanye's Heartless, which was sang by Kris Allen in the final 3 episode of AI, and according to Randy it was better than the original. Here's the video of Kanye's song.

Joema bets Kris has a chance of winning AI. The homecoming episode showed a lot of his supporters from Arkansas. And Kris knows how to choose a song. It's gonna be a real exciting finale next week.

I thought last week's American Idol was not fair. It wasn't fair that only two judges were able to speak after each contestant's performance. It's really puzzling why the producers can't keep the show under an hour and had to do that. Joema and I thought that they probably should let the judges have timed comments, like they should cut through Paula's comments if she's just rambling on hehe. But this article has way more funny ideas on how to cut the time of AI. I'm reposting the whole article here.
After weeks of "American Idol" running long and wrecking havoc with our DVRs and TiVos, we've come up with a plan to condense the entire show down -- way down. We're talking 15-minute performance nights and five-minute results nights. And if we can do it, there's no reason Fox can't, too.
Performance Nights:
Minute 1: Obligatory introductions of judges and Seacrest so they can show off their outfits and smile.
Minute 2: The mentor of the week gives one big gushing speech about how everyone was wonderful. No footage of them standing lamely by a piano, or a history of their accomplishments gets shown.
Minutes 3 & 4: Adam Lambert blows away all convention again with whatever this week's theme is.
Minute 5: Simon's comments. None of the other judges get to talk; they just have to nod or shoot angry looks at Simon for calling it either wonderful or too theatrical.
Minutes 6 & 7: Danny Gokey does his predictable Danny Gokey thing.
Minute 8: Simon says it was a bit boring, but that he understands why America loves Danny. Audience booing.
Minutes 9-12: Highlights from the rehearsal footage of the other remaining contestants. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Gokey and Lambert will be the finalists, so why even pretend anymore? Just do a snippets reel and the audience can vote on who the worst person of the night was.
Minute 13: The non-Gokey/Lambert contestants stand on stage while Simon gives his thoughts on who sounded the most cabaret or karaoke and who was surprisingly passable.
Minute 14: Ryan gives out all of the dial-in numbers. Cautions that these are 866 numbers and that standard text messaging rates apply.
Minute 15: Seacrest wishes everyone a good night. Kara says "artistry," Randy says "dawg" and Paula babbles randomly, but her speech gets cut off by the start of the next show on Fox.
Results Nights:
Minute 1: Introductions of Seacrest and the judges, so Ryan can make some snarky comment about Simon and the audience applause gives him his weekly dose of validation for having an opinion.
Minute 2: Seacrest calls all the contestants who aren't Gokey and Lambert down to the center stage and they look sad/surprised.
Minute 3: Ryan asks Simon who should go home. Simon tosses out the name of his chosen punching bag of the week. Audience booing ensues.
Minute 4: Ryan sends most of the remaining contestants back to the couch, then tells the bottom two who America hated the most.
Minute 5: The eliminee gets to sing their song, until it is cut off by a Ford commercial.
I'm not much of a fan of Danny because like the article says I think he can only do one thing. My bet for the top two would be: Adam and Cris. Although I think Allison is also deserving to be in the final two. I'm not sure I understand why the judges saved Matt. Simon even said that Matt doesn't have the chance of winning the contest – then why oh why did they save him? What if Allison is in the bottom this week, then they wouldn't be able to save her…and she's way better than Matt.
Have you seen last night's American Idol? Here are some of the things I thought about while watching the episode.
First off, why are there 36 contestants and not the usual 24? There seemed to be so many contestants now and not even all of them deserve to be there. Like that guy Von Smith ..I think he just shouts out and do not really have a good voice. And then after him they showed the sing-off between Cody Sheldon and Alex Wagner-Trugman. I think both guys deserve to be on the top 36 than Von. And then when Jamar was eliminated after they've shown Danny Gokey was in for the final 36, I thought it wasn't fair. If they had a spot for Von they could have just given it to Jamar Rogers instead. He had more personality and you can already see what kind of a recording artist he will be. I was shouting in front of the TV when they were showing this. Joema had to And what about those people who made it but forgot their lyrics during Hollywood wee? Like Stephen Fowler and Joanna Pacitti!!?!? I remembered Simon saying at the start of the week that when you forget your lyrics you're gone. But no they gave these people second chances although I read this morning that Joanna was removed from the final 36. What about Tatiana del Toro? She's kind of a loopy girl hahaha. I noticed when Cody and Alex came to the holding room, everyone was just shocked to know the results because it was the first sing-off and no one was really showing happy they are for Alex because Cody was still there, but Tatiana was clapping and saying "woohoo". I don't know if she's insensitive or just really doesn't get what's happening around her. She did it again when Jamar came back to the holding room telling everybody he didn't make it through. Everyone was shocked but again Tatiana was clapping. Oh my! And is she really talented? If she is then I'm not getting it. It's either she's really talented and my being annoyed with her is getting to me or she's not really talented and the judges just put her through to be the "life of the show" or something like that.
Saw the news on this cute little boy (another Youtube sensation) on either the Today Show or ET (can't remember!!!). Apparently he guested on the Tyra Show where he sang with Tyra. He's sooo chubby because he has a kidney disease which requires him to take steroids. He's name is Sam and he is so adorable!!!
I'm so so glad David Cook won the American Idol title. I wasn't able to watch the results show yesterday because we're out the whole day for our prenup shoot (more on that later). My father texted me the result as early as 10am yesterday. But of course I will watch the replay. Yey yey yey! I wasn't expecting him to win (although I'm really rooting for him) because of Simon's comments during the performance show.
Anyways, we watched a movie after going to the church. We watched Iron Man because everyone I knew was raving about this movie. And it was really awesome. It’s that kind of movie where you don’t want it to end because you’re having so much fun watching it. Robert Downey Jr. is so great in this movie. I don’t really know his filmography but I liked him in Ally McBeal. Too bad he had drug problems (?) and had to quit the show. I super loved him when he sang “Every Breath You Take” with Sting in one of the episodes. Well, in Iron Man obviously he’s not singing haha. If you haven’t watched it yet, go go go! It’s better to watch the movie in the big screen unless you have your own mini-theater at home. And please wait after the credits because there’s one last scene after.
After the movie, we headed home and watched the elimination show of American Idol. Actually I already knew who was going to get booted out even before the start because Lorena texted me the result – she loves Jason. Anyway, after the elimination of Michael Johns I’m quite indifferent on the results (although I was extra happy when Kristy Lee Cook left haha). But I began to like David Cook especially after the Mariah Carey theme. I hope he wins and not David Archuleta. I do like little David but I guess Cook is much more original and has a lot more character than David A.
It was back to wedding preps after watching AI. Not really wedding preps but on our honeymoon ehehehe. I showed Joema the resorts in Krabi that I’ve researched on. I am thisclose to booking one without Joema’s knowledge haha. But last night he approved of the choice I made. I am not yet sure if I’ll book it right away or wait for October and hopefully get the discounted rates because of last minute booking – but I guess if I do this I take the risk of not being able to book the resort if they don’t have available rooms anymore.
After surfing the net, we went back to watching tv. We popped in Friends in the player and laughed our heads off. Buti na lang Joema’s very easy to please – even if we didn’t do anything extra special he was still happy on his birthday because he got to spend the day with me. I’m very happy too that he is happy. I love you honey!
Seriously??!?!?! I'm so upset he was the one who left tonight. Huhuhu. First off, I wasn't able to watch the performance show because I went to a friend's birthday dinner. But was he really that bad? That he had the lowest vote and has to leave the show so early??? All the while I thought he would be safe. For sure he must have a following already. Well, obviously I thought wrong! Tonight, when I got home my mom immediately told me that Michael Johns was the one who was voted off. She already read it on the internet. I was shocked! I still am! I caught the last few minutes of the show when the judges were saying things to Michael and it was true! OMG! I'm really upset! First Ramiele and now Michael. I heard Kristy had a good performance but when will she go?! I can't believe Michael left before her! Gggrrrrr!!!!
I know this is kind of a delayed reaction. But anyway, here are my thoughts on Ramiele's elimination from American Idol. First of all, I think she hasn't given any amazing performance in all the top 12 episodes she's been in - from the two Beatles' weeks, and then the week they did a song from the year they were born and then from Dolly Parton's collection. The girl dosn't know how to choose a song. Last week was a good song choice for her but she didn't sing it well enough (saying that she's sick). Well, I didn't think she would go this early thinking that the Filipino-Americans are all behind her. And we know how crazy Filipinos are about texting and singing. Plus she really is a much better singer than Jasmine Trias. Too bad the Filipno-Americans didn't vote for her as much as they voted for Jasmine. Although, Jasmine probably had the vote of the whole of Hawaii and not just the Filipino voters. Okay, these are just my opinions. I'm not saying that Ramiele didn't have American fans but since from the start they were comparing her to Jasmine, I'm just assuming that she had a solid vote from the Fil-Ams as well. Anyway, Ramiele's elimination was really emotional. I was crying too when she sang her last song. Although, I felt a little relieved because atleast now I didn't have to worry about her every week if she's going to get booted out or not (haha affected!). And now I can concentrate on Michael Johns haha. Two weeks running baby! Oh and can I just say that that Kristy Lee is really lucky! She should have been the first one out of there and she knows it!
Of course, Rachel didn't push through with the wedding. She realized she wasn't in love with Barry, the orthodontist. So she ran away. This is actually on the pilot episode of Friends.
2. Ross and Emily's wedding
The fateful wedding of Ross where he said Rachel's name instead of Emily's. This is also when Monica and Chandler started hooking up (well, technically they did it the night of the rehearsal dinner). I love the romantic setting of Ross and Emily's ceremony venue. The cathedral has sentimental value to Emily because this is where her parents got married. But a few days before her own wedding, the place was torn down because of renovations. Instead of postponing the wedding, they had it in the middle of the ruins and put on Christmas lights and candles everywhere.
3. Ross and Rachel's wedding
The "world's worst hangover" as Rachel puts it. Well, it was all a drunken mistake. They were all in Las Vegas and Ross and Rachel got drunk and was stupid enough to get married. It was Chandler and Monica who were "planning" to get married but were put off when they saw Ross and Rachel at the chapel.
4. Chandler and Monica's wedding
I was more excited in Monica's wedding preparations than their actual wedding. She had "the book" which she kept ever since she was a teenager. Her book had all the things you need to know in preparing for a wedding from the centerpieces to the wedding gowns. I actually love their engagement story (the proposal) more than their wedding. I cry everytime I watch that episode.
5. Mike and Phoebe's wedding
This is the wedding I love the most. From the snowstorm (yeah I thought it was so romantic to get married outside Central Perk with all the snow), to the wedding march (The Beatles' Here, There, Everywhere), to the entourage's gowns, Phoebe's wedding gown (it's so Phoebe, the wedding gown not being white), to the wedding vows(I loved it when she said Mike's her family). It was such a heartwarming wedding. I always end up crying whenever I watch this episode (like the proposal of Chandler to Monica).
It would have been wonderful to see Ross and Rachel get married. But the writers probably thought against it as it would have been so predictable. And out of all the characters it was Joey didn't marry from the start to the end of the series. Well, I guess if he has gotten married they wouldn't have the spin-off.
Watched the Top10 guys tonight. From the start of the auditions, Michael Johns is my favorite. He blew me away when he sang Bohemian Rhapsody. But the reason for this post is actually David Archuleta, I thought it was all just hype because he was Simon's favorite. During his audition when he sang that John Mayer song I thought he was just lucky because he picked the right song, I wasn't really impressed. And then during Hollywood week, I thought he was good but not as great as how the judges saw him. I didn't get what the fuss was all about. I didn't even like his performance last week. But all that changed tonight, he won me over when he sang John Lennon's Imagine. I loved his performance and I'm totally impressed. Now I get it!
As for the girls, my fave is Asia'h Epperson. And the Fil-Am girl, Ramiele Malubay is good too. She's a better singer than Jasmine Trias, so I think it's safe to say she'll make it to the top 12 with all the Filipinos in the States voting for her. :D
