Iska

I got the call yesterday. Miya passed the UPKAT but her scored tied with 12 other kids and there were only 6 slots left. As approved by UP's Board of Regents, the tie will be broken by drawing lots. The lady on the other end of the line told me to send a representative. Akala ko naman all the while parang raffle like the one they did sa UP-FLCD, may tambyolo. When we got there it was a different story. But let's backtrack a little bit, when I got the call I was at the pedia's clinic with Nina (she's been sick for a week! ugh!) so I immediately called Joma to tell him about the good news and to tell him as well that he needs to go at 9am the following day (today) to UP for the raffle. I also text brigaded our family and friends to continue praying for Miya for the raffle. When we got home, he told me that I better go with him. May paniniwala syang mas maswerte ako sa raffle and he's not that lucky hehe. He has never won anything in his life. Samantalang ako I win once in a while especially giveaways online hehehe. Also last night, I told Miya to pray the she gets in to UP. She said ayaw daw nya, she likes the other school that she was supposed to transfer to. I asked her why, sabi nya "because it's English there" hahahaha! My gosh 'tong batang to.

We were at UP by 8am, one hour early. When we got inside the room where the raffle will be held, the assistant principal told us how we will go about the raffle. So instead of doing it tambyolo style, there will be 13 papers for each of the candidates with 6 "Congratulation"s and 7 "Sorry"s. We will pick our papers all at the same time as the probability of getting a "congratulations" diminishes when we do it one after the other. Hay naku! Before I continue my story on the raffle, hindi pa tapos yung kwento ni Miya and the other school. Moments before we picked the papers, she whispered to me that she likes the other school better and she was a bit whining why she had to be there. Hay naku! I told her if she's going to be negative about it then it's better if she goes out of the room because I don't want her nagative vibe. I told her that UP will prepare her better to be an astronaut. I told her that this was the best school in the Philippines and she will be one of the best students in the Philippines if she gets in. I told her that she will have boy classmates there, but she told me she likes girl classmates better (haha buti naman). The clincher I think is when I told her that she will have two extra months vacation when she gets in to UP hahaha! I don't know how I convinced her basta before the actual bunutan she was finally okay. I was actually surprised that I was calm while talking to her about it. I just didn't want any negative vibes before the draw-lots. To continue with the story of the draw-lots, there was a small rectangular desk where they put the papers around, and each representative for the child went around the desk to pick.  Buti na lang the kid beside me got the paper I was supposed to get, so I picked another one near us rin. Then I turned and walked towards Joma and Miya, and opened the paper and gave a small shriek and small hop when I read "Congratulations". Eeek! We got in!

Sabi ni Joma, all the stars were aligning in our favor kasi out of all the 6 congratulations, I was the only one on our side of the room. Halos lahat ng nakuha nasa kabilang side. And no one reached out to the other end of the desk to get a paper, talagang almost everyone reached for the paper nearest us. Hay naku talaga! Thank you, Lord! We really asked for prayers from our family and friends. We stormed the heavens with prayers for Miya. Thank you, thank you! I'm still on a high from this morning's events. Imagine, out of hundreds of kids (maybe even thousands?) they only got 100 students, 60 of that are UP dependents while 40 are non-UP dependents. We belong to the 40. Waaaahhh!!!! Thank you, Lord, talaga!

Miya's Interest in Theater

One of the last activities in Miya's school is the pre-school play. And this past year, she was really interested in being the "bida" in their class's portion of the play. Their part is Little Red Riding Hood, by the way. She said that their teacher asked them to audition for the part of Little Red Riding Hood but she didn't get the part. I told her it was okay since she will be the one to introduce their portion, so she had a solo speaking part.

Their part was really fun and upbeat. Bagay na bagay yung dance moves nila sa kanya because she moves like that, all jumping and full of energy haha. Here's an excerpt of their play.

She had amazing fun doing their play and was really interested in doing more. So for summer I was really in the look out for theater workshop for her. Unfortunately, Trumpets schedule will not coincide with our own schedule so we had to let it go. She's doing her swimming lessons at the moment instead.

Over the weekend, we went to Kidzania (thanks to a twitter giveaway of SkyCable hehe). They have a theater there where the kids can act in a play. My officemate told me beforehand that her daughter was able to be the bida in the Kidzania play because naswertehan na she was the only kid (or with only a handful of kids) who lined up for the part. So that was my goal for the weekend hahaha. I asked Miya if she wants to get the role of Little Mermaid and she immediately said yes. I asked around where do we go to get the "actress job". We were directed to go to Star Magic. When we got there their auditions was for the Street Dance and not Little Mermaid. When I inquired they told me to come back around 4:15pm. So we went around (will blog about Kidzania on a separate post) and came back. Tamang tama no one was lining up! I don't think anyone knew but us haha! They even had to ask kids passing by if they want to participate in the play, in other words kami lang talaga sumadya don hahaha! To cut the long story short, Miya got the part - she volunteered when they asked for volunteers. After 45 minutes, it was show time! The other parents and guardians went into the theater and other people were coming in to watch as well. I got nervous for her because she might get stage fright when she sees the full theater. But lo and behold, she did great! I was super proud of her.

Here are some excerpts of her speaking parts. Theater crews are behind the kids to whisper their lines because of course you can't expect them to learn their lines in less than an hour.

Now, I'm again on the lookout for summer theater workshops for her. I don't want to let go of this season in her life where she's willing to go on stage and perform. I'm not one to be a stage mother for her to be an artista but I think theater is so much different than our local show business.  So I'm all for supporting her on this.

************

Dearest Miya,

Oh I'm so proud of you, anak! I know that it's not easy to go on stage in front of a lot of people. I know that you sometimes get shy and you need a little push so I know this is so out of your comfort zone and you just really love performing that you are able to do this. I love that you are able to do that. I love that you conquer your fear and do something about it. Thank you for sharing your talents. Continue to share your God-given talent with others. Love you!

Love,
Mommy

Miya's Swimming Class - Day 1

We enrolled Miya in swimming classes this summer. I wanted to enroll her in Trumpets Playhouse workshop as well but they can't give me definite date on their culminating activity, which might coincide with our family trip so we won't push for her enrollment there. I want to enroll her in as much activities this summer to take advantage of the time that she wants to do things. Last summer when we asked her what she wanted to do, she said she just wanted to relax hahaha! So that's what she did.

Yesterday was her first day in class. We enrolled her in Aqualogics because I liked the feedback I got from a friend and the teacher:student ratio was 1:4. I wanted to share a few first impressions on the program. First off, there wasn't any orientation when we got there. Someone took the hard copies of the form from me and gave me some things to sign and then that was it. The teachers didn't even double check if the kids that went to the pool are indeed enrolled (because another staff took care of the forms). Maybe they did check but I did not see, we had to ask how we'll know which group to go to. Their head teacher, I think, just told us we can join that group. In Miya's group, they were 3 girls with 2 teachers which was great because she was almost practicing the whole 1 hour they were there. She didn't have too much idle time waiting for her turn. I'm not sure how they assessed Miya's swimming ability but the first thing they did was for her to float on her back, which Miya can already do and the two other girls with her. I don't know how they would have taught the kids if they were in different skill levels. As I've already mentioned the class is for 1 hour, and I'm happy that the lesson was really for an hour. The kids just have enough time to rest in between their turns, there were some "play" time but it didn't feel like they lost time just playing in the water. And then after the class, Miya was able to linger in the other pool and swim on her own. All in all, I'm excited for her to finish her lessons. We plan to extend her lessons if she wants to later on.

Here are some photos and videos from yesterday.

Miya's Moving Up Day

We attended Miya's Thanksgiving Mass and Moving Up Day ceremony last Saturday (18 March). I think I was emotional the whole time I was there. Haaay! Let me share the photos before my emotions get me.

They had a processional inside the chapel before the mass began.

Was very lucky with where we sat because we were very close to where she was seated. Good thing nakinig ako kay Sister Lui when she asked us to move forward.

Our little graduate

After the thanksgiving mass, we proceeded to their convention hall for the Moving Up ceremony. They also had a processional there which we didn't expect so our seats were not ideal. Good thing, we were allowed to stand up and take videos.

It's so cute that she was all smiles during this time. I couldn't help but feel so proud of her (sans the tears)

That's her our little graduate!

After the ceremony, we picked her up from the Grade 1 classroom. She asked for a picture with her Kinder teacher.

Photo-op before leaving school with Daddy and Mommy.

We then had lunch and watched Beauty and the Beast.

My dearest Miya,

Just this morning, I felt an overwhelming sadness because it dawned on me that you're already 6 years old. Where have all those 6 years gone by? We are so proud of you anak! The priest in your Thanksgiving Mass said that Kinder graduation is more important than college graduation because you transitioned from being innocent to knowing so much. From letters, you can now read. From those numbers, you can now count. And I so agree with him. I look at your photos from last year and I can't help but sigh and realize how much you've grown. That's just in one year. I hope you take with you what we always teach you. And I hope you keep in your memory all the good times that we had in your childhood. In the welcome remarks of your schoolmate she said, "We are not afraid of grade 1, we are not afraid of grade 2, we are not afraid of highschool or even college." Naku anak, Mommy and Daddy are the ones who are afraid. We're mostly afraid that you are leaving us behind but I know that it is our roles as parents to prepare you and guide you to the time that you will be on your own. Sister Dedicacion mentioned in her remarks that each of you has a beauty, faith and strength in you that we are helping you see. May you always find your inner beauty, faith and strength, anak! Know that we are always here behind you to support you in whatever you want to be. Remember what Daddy tells you, you can be whoever you want to be, you can do whatever you want to do. We love you so much, Miya! You make us so proud!

Love,
Mommy

Week 4: The 52 Project 2016

Miya took this selfie. I didn't realize she was taking her photo until I got my phone back. We were on the way to school and she was seated at the back with her yaya.

Halloween Costume

When I was about to make this entry, I remembered I was not able to blog about Miya and Javi's costumes last year. It's a good thing Miya's been the one suggesting her costumes since last year. I don't have to think about what she'll be. She chooses and then I execute. For Javi on the other hand, I still get free reign over what he wears. Without further ado, here are the costumes of my kids from last year and this year.

2014

Last year,  Miya chose to be Sheriff Callie. I actually asked her around August last year, what she wanted to be for Halloween. I wanted to know way before I give birth so that I'll have time to prepare if ever. She chose to be Sheriff Callie because the sheriff cat wears a pink cowboy hat, pink kerchief and pink boots!

I thought the costume was simple enough. We only had to buy the different elements of the costume and put them together so I didn't actually prepare anything before I gave birth. A few weeks before Miya's school Night Out (annual Halloween fair), I asked my mom to buy the hat and boots at Divisoria. She had a hard time finding the hat. She said she scoured Divisoria for 3 hours until she found a pink strawhat. A friend told me that for her kid's cowboy themed birthday party they bought straw hats for the guests and she just sew the edges to look like a cowboy hat. So that's what we eventually did. I wanted to buy a vest for her for her top but we didn't find any at the SM Store so I bought her a chambray top instead with pink pockets. We also bought a pink handkerchief to complete the look. I cut out a star from the leftover gold cloth we have from last year's costume for the sheriff badge. And voila!

Yihaa!!
Meanwhile, Javi used a puppy frogsuit that was gifted to him.

He was only more than a month old here
For our Migs annual trick or treat, Javi wore an LA Lakers frog suit instead of the puppy one.

2015

For this year Miya wanted to be Disgust from Inside Out. So I told her we can dress up Javi as Anger hehe. I had a hard time buying a green wig for Miya, it's either super expensive (almost 2thousand pesos) or other colors are available but green was not. So I went to Instagram and found this really cute store which sells handmade beanies: Posh Dollies. I asked if she could rush doing my order, I think I ordered only a week before our trick or treat but she was able to deliver anyway. The beanies were affordable, the one for Miya only cost P500 while the one for Javi cost P350. For the clothes, again I ask my mom to buy them coz again like last year, I'm pregnant and can't go around scouring the malls for the costume. But I bought Miya's leggings while Javi's red shorts were already on hand. I also used a red bandana that Miya used in her Linggo ng Wika program in school as Javi's necktie.

When I was taking her photo at the right, I didn't know why she was posing like that. It was only when I did this collage and posted this photo on IG did I realize that she was doing Disgust's pose!

Si Anger na hindi hahahaha! Happy baby as Anger.

Family Day

Over the weekend, we went to Miya's school for their Family Day. Their section was assigned the color fuschia pink which was a happy accident because Miya's favorite color is pink.

Binata na anak ko

My babies

The first agenda for the day was mass with the other families and then the program for the Family Day started. It was held inside an airconditioned convention hall but because of the number of people who attended, the place got kind of hot. The program were hosted by ABS-CBN talents Andre and Ginger. But I don't think they did a good job considering that their audience were mostly kids. Sure the adults were there to listen to them but they had a lot of spiels during the hosting which I don't really appreciate because it kept the kids waiting. Haha! Sorry about that. There was also a magic show which again I think the magician was not fit for an audience like that. His spiels were not suitable for young children, he kept saying that magicians are not cheaters (because they tend to lie or deceive their audience, right?) because they are faithful to their girlfriends. Duh?!?!  Plus the show as a bit long for the children's attention span. By the middle of the magic show, most of the kids became weary and started standing up and asking for snacks hehe.

Uhaw na ang baby

Hulas na hindi pa nagpeperform

Anyways, the highlight was the performance of the children of course. Here are Miya's videos.

And then of course, there were games. As I've mentioned in my previous post, Miya doesn't like participating in games because she doesn't like losing. Good thing, we were able to convince her to join. The first game with her Ate (since I can't really do anything physical because of my condition) and then the second game was with Daddy. She even won a Lego toy from the raffle!

Game with daddy

Happy with her raffle prize

I really appreciate activities like this in school. Although we can go out as a family, it's still worthwhile to spend the day as a unit and go on activities like this to celebrate our child and watch her perform.

Updates

This blog has become a once a month thing. I feel guilty for not documenting our lives here as eagerly as before. But what can I do. Every time I want to write something or something happens, I'm lazy to even open the write post tab of Blogger hehehe. So here I am trying to condense in this one blog post all that has happened ever since.

Miya

  • She's thriving in her big school. This week is their 2nd term Paper Games and we've been reviewing since APEC week. I'm proud to say she finds Math easier than Language ahahaha. She's not like me because I like studying. She on the other hand needs to be prepared to study. I mean she can absorb and understand so much when her heart is into studying but when I force her to study and her mind is somewhere else then our study time leads to nowhere.
  • She really loves the water. I was able to attend one of her swimming classes in school. The basic thing that was being taught was not to be afraid of the water and she really enjoys it. She's one of the students who is not afraid to follow the coach's instructions and be on the water all by herself.
During swimming class in school

  • We're so much alike that there are times that we tend to fight a lot. I'm not proud of it but we tend to argue so much. There was one time on our way to school she blurted out, "Hay salamat, hindi tayo nag-aaway!" Hahahaha. Yes, she's really like that. She talks like an adult.
  • She's brave. We went to Sta. Elena Farm for their school field trip and she tried on every activity there. She tried horse-back riding, the zipline, riding the boat and the carabao, fishing.
Zipline!

  • She doesn't like losing. That's why she doesn't like participating in games hahaha. When she attends a children's party, I tell her she should participate in the games so that she'll get a prize. She tells me she doesn't like, and even if she doesn't participate in the games she still gets a prize - the loot bag hahahaha!
Javi
  • He started walking already but because he's so likot we tend to always be just behind him or someone still holding his hand. He doesn't even pause to turn while walking. He just does it with no care.
  • Miya is malikot. But a lot of people were telling me then that iba ang likot ng lalaki kaya mag-intay daw ako kay Javi. Yep, they were right. Iba nga ang likot ng little boys. Javi is really malikot. He won't stay put even if he's carried. He will push you and will start crawling or walking wherever he wants to go.
  • He is gala and maarte. Before he goes for his afternoon walk, he knows it immediately when they put on his shoes. I don't know where he got it but even inside the house he wants his shoes on. Hahaha!
Yehey gala na!

  • Unlike his Ate, he doesn't like the water. Houston, we have a problem! The first time we dipped him in the ocean, it was only for a few seconds. The first time we dipped him in a pool was only for a few minutes because he started crying. We tried dipping him in beach water again but he still doesn't like the feel of the sand on his feet. Ang arte talaga! We're hoping he'll soon overcome this because Joema, Miya and I all love water. Pano kung sya hindi?
Look how awful his face is kawawang kawawa hahaha

  • He is so matakaw! He is at the stage where he will try anything you put in his mouth. Even before he turned one, we started feeding him table food. He wants to eat when he sees someone eating and he will get mad if you don't feed him. That is why his body easily bounces back even after getting sick and losing a few pounds because of his illness.
  • He is malambing but at the same time when he gets mads, he really gets mad! He will cry and cry until you pick him up and carry him and console him. Sometimes even after that he will still shout and cry.
  • He blabbers on and on. He can say mam-ma (for mommy), a-di (for daddy), te te (for ate), yoya (for lola), hai (for hi hehe). We don't understand much of what he says but he will blab and blab and blab.
  • Like his Ate, he also likes music. When Miya sings "God gave me you" he will join in on the singing! As in he says la la la or whatever it is that he says hahaha. But we definitely know it's singing.
  • He has weaned and he has been sleeping through the night. I think he last nursed middle of November. This makes me sad because I wasn't able to breastfeed him as long as his Ate. He doesn't even try to nurse anymore even during day time when we're together. He weaned on his own but mommy-led as well. During the day, he feeds from a bottle before he naps. And then before bed time at night, he also has one bottle. I want to start weaning him from the bottle as well. We'll try giving him milk from the tetra pack (we give him fresh milk/soy milk). And if he's satisfied with that no need for bottle before sleeping. I don't want him to get hooked to the feeding bottle's nipple.
My pregnancy
  • I'm currently 25 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I was put on bed rest last week because I experienced contractions for two days (felt dysmenorreah like pain).
Taken last Sunday, 29 Nov 2015 at 24 weeks and 5 days

  • Every pregnancy is really different. For this one I had nausea until maybe my fourth month. Although until now I'm easily nauseated.
  • The baby started really moving by the 18th week. She/he (I will alternately use either pronoun) now moves a lot and when my tummy is pressed he kicks back hahaha.
  • We've had our congenital anomaly scan on 22nd week. I was nervous all through out the scan. But everything seems to be A-OK.
  • My OB does the ultrasound every month during our checkup but we still don't know the gender of our baby, our choice. We don't plan to know it until I finally give birth. It will be a surprise. We already have one girl and one boy so think of this as a bonus round. :)
  • I'm a guilty mother. I haven't been as careful with my eating habits this time around unlike with Miya and Javi before. Sorry, anak!
  • I'm not sure if I will be able to publish a blog post I started about how we found out I was pregnant. That's another guilty mother post.
Baby Bashful's first photo - no fetus and heartbeat yet but there's already the yolk sac and gestational sac

  • We still don't have a name for the baby. We call her baby bashful now while inside my tummy (Miya named her). As we don't know the gender, we need to prepare one name for a girl, and one name for a boy.
  • Although we don't know the gender yet, Joema and I both think the baby is a girl haha.

How Are You?

It's been more than a month since my last post and that wasn't even an update on what's been happening lately. So many things have happened and I've been swamped with work. But finally we're getting wifi at home so hopefully I will churn out more blog posts in the coming days. Meanwhile, let me share with you the latest photos of my kids.

Quick Update

And when I was so good blogging I suddenly disappeared again. Well, I have good excuse this time. Joema got sick - measles! And then after two weeks it was my turn! It was hell! When Joema got sick, me and the kids went to my parents' home and stayed there for the duration of his illness so that we won't get ill. But measles is contagious even before the rashes came out, so yeah I caught the bug from him and was sick after two weeks (incubation period is 2-3 weeks). When I got sick, the kids were then sent again to my parents' home. It was torture for me to be away from the kids, from Javi specifically because we're breastfeeding. They told me there were nights when he didn't have a good night sleep and he wanted to be carried the whole time. I couldn't leave him a shirt or piece of clothing so that he'll smell me while we're not together because my clothes might be carrying my germs. My stash of frozen breastmilk was gone in a few days. I had to pump milk continuously even if I was feverish or itchy from the rashes. No worries, I did all that for my son and I missed him and his Ate terribly. I had a few breakdowns while they were away because of home sickness. I guess it was God's way of preparing me for my upcoming business travel. I should have been gone this last week but because of my measles the trip was postponed to second week of June. I guess the only difference when I was sick was I didn't know when I'll get well, unlike for a business trip I know when the trip will end. Haaay! While I was tortured to be away from the kids, my little girl was having a blast hahaha! She thoroughly enjoyed her "summer vacation" at her Lolo and Lola's place. Javi on the other hand really missed me. The day I got my doctor's clearance I went to see them. Javi was crying from his rocker when he saw me, apparently he wanted me to carry him. And when I did, he hugged me and he propped his head on my shoulders. It's the sweetest thing I tell you! I felt like crying while we're hugging me. I didn't expect for him to miss me that much. And then these days, he's always "naghahabol". He doesn't want me leaving his sight. I think he hasn't recovered yet. Poor kid! He turned 8 months, by the way. I hope to blog more in the coming days. I don't know how because I'm swamped with work because I was gone for two weeks! But I think I'll manage to post a few things. See you around!

Week 15: The 52 Project 2015

Another photo from our weekend at the beach. When I asked her to look at the camera she told me she was busy hahaha! More than going into the water, she likes playing in the sand when we're at the beach. I love it that my daughter shares my love for the ocean. We are truly both Aquarians #anodaw

He's at the stage where he loves putting everything in his mouth. I have to unearth the gifts we received over Christmas for teethers and toys he can use as teethers. Hay naku, I really feel guilty because I don't seem to buy anything new for this little boy. I always rely on what gifts he has received, which are enough really. I'm just guilty because even though he's my second child, it's as if I'm not aware of what milestones we'll encounter with him each month. Case in point, when we started giving him solids. I didn't even buy him a proper spoon and bowl. We just used what was available in the house. Does that make me a bad mother? I hope not! E with Miya todo bili talaga ng mga bagong gamit for her. I'm so sorry baby boy! That doesn't mean I love you any less! It's just that Mommy's more practical now adays and I know what really needs to be bought and what's just shoved in my face by marketing. Mwah mwah mwah!

Miya's Big School

Deciding on a school for Miya was a stressful thing for me, for us. I lay awake very early in the morning thinking about this over and over again. We want to send her to the best possible school we can afford. It was really between schools 2 and 3. As you can see, I haven't mentioned school # 1 again but here I am writing about our decision on where to send Miya. First of all, we're transferring schools because we're moving houses. Hopefully by May, we'll be able to move to our new home. That's the main driver for this school hunt. Miya has already done 2 years in pre-school. Nursery and Junior Kinder in her current school but because of her young age (she's only 4 years and 3 months as of today), she needs to repeat Junior Kinder or Nursery 2 or Pre-Kinder (whatever the school calls it, as long as it's the level before Kinder and then Grade 1). This is with all the big schools we've looked into. I'm okay with this since I pretty much expected it as we were looking for schools for her since last year. School # 1 is waaay too far from where we will be living. It would have been a good school for her, I particularly looked into that school because of the values taught to the students. I've only received good feedback on this school when it comes to the children's attitude and values. The school is considered a small school, small community. But it would be a loong drive for Miya to get there. She needs to wake up super early if we get a school bus to pick her up. The fee for the school bus is a whopping P5,000 per month. So even if the tuition fee is relatively the same with other two schools, the school bus will hike up our expenses.

Between schools 2 and 3, I don't really have a preference that's why it was hard to make the decision. I've talked to our friends, even our architect/contract because her daughter studies at school 3, to come up with a decision. Joema and I had to really sit down and discuss each and every aspect of the two schools. We couldn't come up with a decision if we talked about it at home in passing while eating or on the drive to work. I forgot to mention that these three schools offer pre-kinder level for Miya. So these were the shortlisted ones. We initially didn't want Miya to go to another small pre-school and then transfer again next year to a big school. We wanted to spare her from transferring of schools every year for the next two years. We decided on this. But during one of the discussions with the hubby, he turned around on this decision  and told me we don't have to insist on these schools if there are other options, better schools who only offer Kinder entry level. I blew my top off and told him we both came up with the decision that we didn't want Miya to transfer schools for two consecutive years. So that's when I told him, we need to sit down and discuss this school decision.

I listed down our criteria in choosing the school. The list below is already in order of our top criteria:

1. budget
2. quality and standard of education
3. mission and vision of the school in connection with our family values
4. student reputation - how the outside world perceives the students from that school
5. accessibility
6. school environment
7. extra-curricular activities

Between the two schools, the tuition is almost the same so we went to the next criteria. Our basis for choosing was the status of both schools at PAASCU and the list of the top 200 student passers of ACET. Haha, I know right? School # 3 won.

For numbers 3 and 4 criteria, school # 2 has the reputation that girls from that school are more maarte. Joema is really adamant on sending Miya there because our little girl is already super kikay and sometimes bordering annoying sa kaartehan hahaha! Joema doesn't want Miya to grow up to be super arte. Even our friend who has a niece studying there told us that most girls from that school are really maarte hahaha. Okay, not that being maarte is a bad thing. Joema's just not comfortable with Miya being super arte. School # 3 won.

For accessibility, school # 3 won again. We can opt for Miya to ride with us going to work and we can drop her off at school. Then she can ride the school bus going home.

For school environment, we liked school # 2 more. The school grounds was very conducive to studying. The environment was very relaxed, very quiet. There were a lot of trees. Joema even compared it to UP campus. In the classrooms, the students were seated in a big table. 5 or 6 students share a big table. We even saw a class were the students were sitting on the floor during the discussion. I liked the laid-back feel of the school.

We thought both schools offer a good variety of extra-curricular activities.

I also listed down a couple of questions we need to consider like will we sustain bringing Miya to school (for accessibility), and what school will we choose for Javi (both schools for Miya are all-girls school)?

Aside from these, I also listed down three options we can choose from:

1. Choose between the two schools for Miya's pre-kinder then transfer her to another all-girls school
2. Choose between the two school and Miya will stay there from pre-K until high school
3. Choose another small school for Miya and then transfer her to another big school

In the end, Joema told me we choose between the two schools and see how Miya will adapt. If we don't like the school then we transfer Miya to a co-ed school where she can go together with Javi. From our criteria, we chose school # 3. If you remember, I mentioned that our deadline for paying the tuition was 31 March, I paid on 30 March hehe. I just didn't want us to decide on school # 3 only because we need to decide ASAP. I wanted us to make a decision based on what we want for Miya and not because we were pressured to decide because of the deadline.

Entrance Test at School # 2

Miya took the entrance test at School # 2 on 20 March. Her test was scheduled at 8am. We were there a few minutes after 7am. Unfortunately, the test did not start at exactly 8am. I don't know exactly why they started late. We were asked to go to the admin office and from there the girls (there were three of them) were ushered to the testing area. This time around we were able to say goodbye and good luck to Miya.

Bye, Miya!

We were advised beforehand that the entrance test and interview with the parents will be simultaneous so for this test, Joema was with us (plus it's hard for me and Miya to go here and then go back home via Uber). It must have been almost 10am before we were asked to go to the testing area. It was our turn for the interview. Good thing, we were the first parents to be interviewed. We were asked about Miya's personality, how she handles things, how we are as a family. My makulit daughter was bugging us to go to the swimming pool just at the exact moment that the teacher was asking us how she is if she doesn't get what she wants hahaha! Hay naku! Anyway, after the interview the teacher told us that the admin office will contact us if our daughter passed or not but she let it slip that Miya "did very well in the exam" (her exact words) but it was beyond her authority to let us know if Miya passed or not. After that we went around the pre-school area to look at the classrooms.

When we asked Miya what was asked in her test she said she doesn't remember and then she repeated what she told us about the test at School # 3 hahaha!

The 52 Project 2015

I should have started joining the 52 project this year as early as the first week but I got too lazy. It's only now that I realize that I should do this not only for the kids but for me as well. To see my kids grow in each week. I joined last year but unfortunately didn't last through the year. So here's hoping that I will succeed for the whole year in 2015. This post is to catch up on weeks 1 through 11.
