Glass Breaker

Got this email yesterday so the following event happend Sunday night, 22 July 2007.

Hi guys. I'm sorry to start the week off with a downer of an email, but we feel that it's necessary to share this story with you.

At around 9pm last night, we (well, our car) were the victims of "glassbreakers".

We were parked along the main street of BF Homes (President's Avenue) -- a parking lot in front of a closed luxury car shop right beside the entrance to Tahanan Village. A lamp post illuminated the area and it was only a fewsteps to the guard house. And at 9pm, it was still a very busy street. So without giving it another thought, we locked the car and crossed the street to where we were having dinner.

We came back an hour later to find our left rear window open -- at least, that's what i thought. At closer inspection we found that the window had actually been smashed. And they did a pretty good job of it -- the whole glass lay inside the car unbroken, with only shattered bits around it. Maybe that's why they didn't trip the alarm. They knew what they were doing, as we were later told by the police that it wasn't the first time this happened in the area.

Anyway, we realized that a bag in the back seat caught their attention. It wasn't a flashy one, and we thought our car was darkly tinted enough to hide what was inside. Apparently we were wrong. The bag contained some cash, credit cards, atm cards, a phone, and house keys. So we immediately got on the phone to have the cards and phone line cut, and all that.

We put a makeshift window made of dark plastic so that we could at least drive home without inhaling the polluted air of South Super Highway.

And we thanked God that it was just a bag that was stolen, not our entire car...that it was just a window that was smashed, and not us.

We've all heard these stories before and have been warned, especially about leaving your laptops in cars, or when going to particularly dangerous areas. But when it happens to you, inside a busy, well-lit area inside a private subdivision, with only a simple bag as the trigger, you can't help but think, what's the world coming to? Hay.

Bottom line -- please, please be extra careful, guys. No matter where you go, or what you have, these people will always find a way to get what they want (or need -- I keep telling myself that I hope whoever did it was really in dire need na lang. :p) Don't give them the opportunity.

Please forward this story to everyone on your mailing list. God knows we all need to be on guard. Unfortunately.

Thanks!

Sad and Happy

Last Saturday I went to two different occasions. In the morning, my parents and I went to the wake of our neighbor, Tita Aida. She’s been battling with breast cancer for a few years now. I learned that she stopped having chemo-therapy last December. She died at the age of 68. I haven’t had the experience of having someone died in our immediate family. I think the closest would be my Tito Pet, who’s the brother of my mom. But he was based in the province so I did not experience the whole preparing for the wake, for the burial thing. All we did there was show up for the wake and the interment. I guess I’m lucky that way. Anyways, last year I’ve experienced the death of someone close to me. Although she wasn’t family, I see her everyday and have worked close with her for almost two years. It was a shock to all of us because she died of an accident. She was in the ICU for four days before finally succumbing to death. I don’t if I’ll ever be able to handle death in our (immediate) family or a love one (Joema or any of my dear, dear friends). When Tita Percy died I really can not understand why she had to go. I know that they say that she’s in a better place but I still felt that something was taken from me – without my permission. Maybe, God hasn’t taken any of my love ones yet because he knows I’m not yet ready for that. I’m not that mature enough to accept the concept of death. I know and believe that there’s heaven and that people who die go there. This was recently reassured by a priest that I heard perform mass recently. He said that priests choose to be celibate because God is pointing out that there is a heaven. “Bakit ako magpapakahirap ng ganito kung hindi ako naniniwala sa heaven? I bet my life to you that there is a heaven,” he said. Did I explain that clearly? Basta when I heard it, my belief was reaffirmed.

In the afternoon, I went to Ge’s house blessing. They recently bought a house and had it renovated. Sayang no pictures, nawili kasi sa kwentuhan. Although I felt a little out of place because almost all of them were married and had their spouses/kids with them, I still had a lot of fun. I guess the good thing about having married friends is that I learn a lot from them – you know, grown up stuff like buying houses, or stuff about their kids, even stuff about their household help. Well, I hope in the future I will be able to use whatever I learn from them.
I didn’t notice that my Saturday was almost over when I got home. Usually I feel that Saturday’s a very loooong day because I don’t get to see Joema (when his off-days are weekdays), but last Saturday was different because I went out. I only went to the wake and to the house blessing because I was with my parents (wake) and they dropped me off (blessing). Well, I guess I won’t be having that problem anymore because Joema started training again today, meaning Saturdays and Sundays off again. Yey! (I’ll have this problem again maybe 6 weeks after.)

One Night with Angel

I chanced upon the show: One Night with Angel on Channel 9. It's produced by Ideal Minds. At first I thought, it was just one of those low-budgeted reality tv shows (I only knew it was produced by Ideal Minds during the end credits). I don't know what IT is that made me watch the show maybe it's the "bida" played by Rem and his friend Shan or the concept of the show. Anyhow, while watching it I found out that Rem has 30 days to go and accomplish his goal which is to date the actress Angel Locsin. Although I was only able to catch it last night I caught up with what's been happening. Rem already met Angel in SOP and he already told her he wanted to go out with her. Last night's episode showed was day 24 when Rem prepared a pasta dish with tuna and pesto, which they dubbed Pasta a La Darna (gets?). I loved Shan when he was telling on the story on how they came up with the name. This was in preparation for his date with Angel. He wanted to prepare everything for her for his envisioned candle-lit dinner. On the next day, day 25, he was on his way to work when his friend called him up and told him that Angel agreed to go out with him. Because of his excitement, he did not go to work (he's supposed to report for his first day at work at Sen. Mar Roxas' office - big time di ba?). I was thinking swerte ko naman first time ko nanood tamang tama pang makakadate na nya si Angel. It turned out his friend was duping him. It was a different "Angel". I found it interesting that he had to explain to the girl why there were cameras around (mukhang di talaga scipted). And I was enlightened too with his explanation hehe (then I knew it was a documentary and what the show was really about). Buti na lang he was gentleman and honest enough to tell her everything and still continue on with the date. I liked Angel's question to him: of all the guys na may crush kay Angel Locsin, why would she choose him. Pati yung director at si Shan nawindang ever!

For the preview on the next episode Shan was talking to Rem and asking him why he's quitting after everything. Hmmm...I'm intrigued.

My Life in Bullets

  • - I've finished Silence already. Well, this was mid-June pa. I so love the ending. I think the ending was perfect. I'm a sucker for tragic endings. For example, I loved City of Angels also because of the ending. There was no other way these two (Silence and City of Angels) could have ended.
  • - I haven't studied for THE exam for over a week now. Although, I did some note taking during lunch time today. I should finish the memo for HR form them to approve my application for the exam. I'm praying that the Peso will continue to appreciate para mura lang lalabas ang exam fee. :)
  • - My weekends now seem longer because I don't get to see Joema. Damn that sched! We get to see each other on Tuesdays though. Pathetic noh! We can't do anything about it. Super baligtad ang time sched namin. Pauwi ako, papasok sya. Papasok ako, sya naman ang pauwi. Grrrr!!! I wish he'd be transferred to another account soon para training ulit meaning Saturdays and Sundays off ulit! Yehey!
  • - Been watching a lot DVDs and Friends nowadays (dahil nga walang magawa pag weekends). Sa bahay pag walang ibang mapanood na DVD pop-in Friends. We never get tired of it. I love all of them. If you make me choose which one I love the most: Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe or Monica.. parang wala akong mapili.

Pffft

I’ve been gone for a time that I don’t know what to say. Should I make excuses why I didn’t blog? Should I make a recap of what has been happening in my life? Hmm… Let me just leave you with this instead.

You Are 91% Burned Out

You are extremely burned out.
You work too hard, and you're not getting the results you deserve.
It's time for a life change, as soon as you can manage it.
You're giving away most of your energy to something you don't even enjoy.

Silence Pa rin

Please do not proceed in reading this if you're sick of my ZZ posts.
What can I say! I'm hooked! I'm already at episode 10. I sooo love the story! And as usual I'm so inlove with Zaizai. Can I take the suspense??? Shit!!! I'm so happy! I love the story talaga! Medyo malungkot dahil the two of them can't be together at the moment pero you have this gut feeling na someway, somehow they will be together even if just for a while. It's so nice to be in love and to believe in love.

SilenceD

Finally I will get a copy of Silence!!! I was so frustrated watching an episode last night on QTV so I texted Mai, another wifey of zz. Turned out she already watched it and has a copy. Whooppeee!!! I'll meet her later to get the copy and we'll have dinner. Hopefully, EJ will come too.
Zaizai, don't think I forgot your birthday last Saturday. I just didn't have internet access then. Well, I have but I'm too lazy, as usual, to turn on the PC at home. Happy 26th! We're getting older hahaha. Somehow I wish my open letters to you will reach you. Mental telepathy na lang with matching translation from English/Filipino to Mandarin. Wo ai ni!

Gymini

Even if I feel so lazy to hit the gym I will still go because of this "heavy feeling in my stomach", literally not figuratively. I think I've gained two pounds in the last few days. Argh! Why does it take me weeks to shed off 2-3 pounds but it takes only 3 or 4 days to gain back all that weight I've lost! Pakshet!

Independence Day Weekend

How was your long weekend? Yesterday was a holiday, at least here at the office, so I filed for leave on the 11th so that I’ll have a four-day weekend. Happy! I didn’t prepare for any trip, due to lack of moolah :P, so this is how I spent the last four days.

June 9 – I woke up late, which is one of the things I love during weekends. Watched a few episodes of Sex and the City then went back to sleep after lunch. Yes, that’s what I do on weekends when I don’t have anything else to do. Sleep, eat, sleep, watch TV, sleep again. My brother rented out Norbit which we all watched. Joema and I bought ice cream for merienda. You know the Magnolia ice cream with marshmallows you can put on top, the one with Piolo in the TVC.

June 10 – We went to Tagaytay and had a hearty breakfast at Josephine’s. We all thought it was already Father’s Day so we planned our Sunday this way. We only realized it wasn’t when we were ready to leave the house at seven in the morning. That’s okay cause we usually wake up early on Sunday to hear the 7am mass in the chapel right in our subdivision. I brought my camera along only to find out that I have no battery life left. I wasn't able to charge the battery the night before. I was only able to take a few pictures at Josephine's di pa matino ang itsura ng nanay at tatay ko haha.

And a picture of my mother at the garden:

After breakfast we went to Our Lady of Lourdes in Tagaytay. I thought that this church was huge. It turned out the church was not that big, it was just right actually. I was a bit surprised that there were a lot of people going there to hear mass. Maybe I just didn’t think there were a lot of people who live in Tagaytay. I always figured there were a lot of tourists, you know Manilenos going there for the weekend, but not residents.Obviously it was my first time there so I made a wish. Secret muna yung wish para magkatotoo. After Tagaytay, we went home and I went to bed. Ahahaha. That’s only around 1pm. I’m such a sleepyheard, really!

June 11 – My mother and I went to the parlor to get hair cut and treatment. That's almost half of the day spent at the salon. Btw, while waiting for our turn I was reading a Marie Claire magazine, the Philippine edition, and they have an article there where they had the contributing writer pose as a bombshell. She was an ordinary looking girl, very low maintenance, short hair, shirt and jeans kind of girl and they transformed her into a sexy goddess. Gosh they caught people staring at her breasts. There was even an asshole at the MRT who took a picture of her, pero kunyari yung buildings ang kinukahaan nya ng picture, and showed it to his buddies. We can only guess if its her face he took pictures of or her breasts. The nerve of this pricks! Show some respect dude! I just wish they showed the faces of these bastards so that they'll be ashamed of what they did. Too bad I wasn't able to finish reading the article. Anyways, after the straightening and cellophane treatment I had my hair cut. I took a picture of the haircut I liked from this site and showed it to the stylist. He told me that my hair is still too short for that cut so it will just be the front that he will do some styling although he will still trim the back. I want him to copy this:

but it turned out like this:

Not quite the same eh? Maybe I should have it blow dried like the first pic.
June 12 - Joema had his off yesterday so he went straight to our house after his shift. Well, he slept the whole morning so I watched DVDs. I was able to watch Bobby, now I'm curious about the life of Robert F. Kennedy. How I wish our politicians are that sincere in running for office. And that I will vote for someone simply because I know he/she will make a difference in my life or the generation next to mine. Because honestly in the last elections I voted for the lesser evils, I researched on the things they've already done and hoped and prayed that after I voted for them and they won they will do something good for the people and stop politicking. In hindsight, I didn't realize I watched this movie on our Independence Day. Did you do something special to celebrate our independence? I didn't but when the Lupang Hinirang was played in the cinema that night I proudly stood still and sang my heart out. I'm getting ahead of my story. When Joema woke up, we went to the mall to watch Pirates of the Carriben: At World's End. I know it's been almost a month and we were only able to watch it yesterday. I liked the movie, more than the second one. Do you think there will be a fourth one? They can easily make another sequel for the movie. I liked the scene where Elizabeth and and Will was married by Capt. Barbosa while doing the fight scenes. Oh just kiss! :)

Picture Paints a Thousand Words

I was bloghopping when I saw this. Do you think I'm pathetic going through a wedding photographer's blog when I'm not yet getting married? Fol Rana's wedding pictures are amazing. Plus he gives tips and features different churches and venues for couples' weddings. A girl can dream right? I'm hoping I could afford him when my wedding day comes. Naks "when" hindi "if"! But for now, I'm hoping to get the free portrait haha *fingers crossed*

Another June 5 post

Last Friday was our birthday treat for Charline and Steve. We ate at Sumo-sam, Power Plant. The food was great! We had a lot of catching up to do. The last time we saw each other was two months ago during Penny's birthday celeb. As always, we talked about the people who weren't there haha. People who will probably be transferring to another company, people who have already transferred. Chismis galore talaga! Mands was only able to join us after all of us were done eating. Kasi naman may bowling bowling pa. Wala tuloy sya sa group picture...

It was so hot at the resto so we transferred to Seattle's Best to hear about Mands' love life. But before we went there photo-op muna with the cars (solo pic naman si Mands pambawi dahil wala sya sa group pic). Back to Mands' love life...unfortunately, it ended with a sad note. And I won't divulge it here dahil gusto ko pa mabuhay. It was a bit ironic because while Mands was telling us his story, Janice was having us sign her guest book from their wedding. Sayang I wasn't able to take pictures of the album. It was so pretty. They had their prenup at UP, where else! We had problems pa writing on it dahil sa material nung album and the pens we were using were not working. Imagine we had 4 pens that we tried using. Si Steve nag-sign kalahati in black ink, yung kalahati in blue. :) Kapal muks namin dahil there were 9 of us but only two bought coffees. At talagang tumambay lang kami don at nagkodakan.

I didn't realize I had to pay to DL episodes of Silence. Oh well, a girl can't have everything.

Silence DL

Dahil sa wala akong makitang dibidi ng Silence at dahil murder magdub ang QTV...SIL, gave me this website. Yiiipiii!!!! Mag-DL na ko mamayang lunch!!! I AM SO HAPPY!!! Love you, SIL!

I told you this won't be an ordinary day! *teehee*

Coffee, anyone?

It stopped raining outside but my computer keyboard got wet. Oh yes! I am so clumsy I spilled my coffee onto it. Eeew!!! To clean it up I bathed it with alcohol afterwards. Gosh! That's not all... I spilled coffee to my clothes too. Buti na lang I have an extra blazer here at the office. I have to change from my cream colored cardigan to my extra black blazer. I'm so hiya to even tell it to my colleagues here. Buti na lang mga deadma lang sila and minding their own business. Hahahaha. Well, I guess this won't be an ordinary day after all.

I hope you have a fun day yourself! :)

Breakfast at Tiffany's

I got to listen to Deep Blue Something's version of Breakfast at Tiffany's on the radio on my way to work this morning. I think it's only now that I listened carefully to the lyrics of the song and understood it completely. It's a very sad song. What do you do in a relationship when your partner is ready to give up on you? Is it worth to fight for it even if you're the only one who wants in on the relationship? Or do you just hold on to that one special thing that you have? Haay....such sad thoughts early in the morning....

You say that we've got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we're falling apart
You'll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
But I know you just don't care

CHORUS:
And I said what about "Breakfast at Tiffany's?
She said, "I think I remember the film,
And as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it."
And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got."

I see you - the only one who knew me
And now your eyes see through me
I guess I was wrong
So what now? I
t's plain to see we're over,
And I hate when things are over -
When so much is left undone

CHORUS:
And I said what about "Breakfast at Tiffany's?
She said, "I think I remember the film,
And as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it."
And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got."

You say that we've got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we're falling apart
You'll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
But I know you just don't care

CHORUS:
And I said what about "Breakfast at Tiffany's?
She said, "I think I remember the film,
And as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it."
And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got."

Solidify my Presence*

First time nung Friday na ibang combo ng friends ang kasama ko - Joel, Gary and Mands - na mag-dinner. Well, they sort of belong to different circles of friends. Joel and Gary are friends from IL while Mands is a friend from Philam. But since the actuarial field is a small one – either you know each other from school (Mands and Joel) or you end up being officemates (Gary and Mands). Haha talk about six degrees of separation. Anyhow, the original plan was Gary will treat me and Joel to dinner. But since he said that he’ll be able to leave work at 7:30pm pa we called him para pilitin na umalis sya ng maaga. Mands answered the phone and we invited him instead to dinner (and would have left out Gary pang-asar lang sana haha). We ate at Crustacia at Rockwell.

Bumangka si Joel buong gabi hahahaha. Dami nyang kwento about his office, the upcoming Ms. Universe pageant, religion (religion daw o!), mussels and the light saber (na di ma-gets ni Mands). We left Starbucks past midnight. Good thing Mands offered, well I offered that Mands take me home wehehehe.

Oh and I finally got the reviewer for Exam M. Gary lent me their copy. Remember I blogged here last year that I will take the exam. Well, I wasn’t able to study so I didn’t enroll for the exam. This year I’m hoping na sipagin akong mag-aral.

*********

Ooooh! Karen, I got your pasalubong yesterday. Salamatski!!! Mwah mwah!
*One of the few things Joel told us. Sobrang laughtrip nito!
